After introducing new delivery service, Pucci Foods customer growth soars

Dungeness crab season is an iconic part of San Francisco’s food scene. For Chris Lam, the president and CEO of wholesale seafood distributor Pucci Foods, the annual catch is a busy time of year. Lam is a classic American success story. He immigrated to the United States from Vietnam at the age of 12 to escape the horrors of war and seek a better life. He climbed the ladder in the seafood industry. The big gamble came when he mortgaged his house to purchase 98-year-old Pucci Foods when he was 33. This year Lam started a daily fresh fish delivery service, which brings the freshest products from its state-of-the-art Hayward facility to customers’ doors.

Food Gal prepared a delcious meal using our Monkfish

Known as the “poor man’s lobster,” monkfish is a seafood I’ve enjoyed quite a few times in restaurants. But I had never cooked it before. Part of the problem was that it’s not an easy fish to find at local seafood markets. But thanks to DailyFreshFish, I was able to finally give it a go.

The new online seafood source was launched recently by Hayward’s Pucci Foods, which was established in 1918 by Joe Pucci, an Italian immigrant. Pucci Foods has long supplied restaurants and retail stores. Now, it’s making that same seafood available directly to consumers.

Our King Salmon makes it to Amy's Kitchen

It's King salmon season and I couldn't be happier. King, also known as Chinook is the most precious and luscious salmon around. It’s very high in healthy fats and has an amazingly creamy texture. I was offered the opportunity to try fish from Daily Fresh Fish so naturally I chose King salmon. DailyFreshFish is a company that delivers seafood overnight. There's no warehousing or middle man and no time for it to linger in a case at the market. It goes from the dock to the shore and then directly to you. The only way to get fresher seafood would be to either catch it yourself or go to dock and get it from a fisherman.

The company offers a wide range of seafood, and is certified with The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) sustainable seafood certification program, which verifies that the seafood is sustainable. They also use seafood guides from the Seafood Watch from the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the NOAA FishWatch to select sustainable fisheries and farms. Even their shipping materials are made from recyclable materials or are reusable or recyclable.
