Cioppino was first created in the 1800s here in the San Francisco Bay Area by Italian fishermen, who made this rich fish stew from their catch of the day. We have assembled the essential seafood ingredients, so you can make Cioppino at home. Our Cioppino kit contains all the important seafood components to make a festive dish for 8-10 people.

Our Cioppino kit includes:

One pound of Large Shrimp
One and a half pounds of Pacific Cod
Two pounds of Manila Clams
One pound of PEI Mussels
Four Crab Sections
One pound of Bay Shrimp

Cioppino Recipe

Ingredients

Our Cioppino Kit provides
1 lb. Tiger Shrimp
1 ½ lb Pacific Cod
2 lb Manila Clams
2 lb PEI Mussels
4 Crab Sections

Also available from Daily Fresh Fish
2 cans Fish Stock

You need to provide
6 cloves Garlic
1 Onion
1 Fennel Bulb
3 Bay Leaves
1 tsp Dried Thyme – or 2 tsp fresh Thyme)
1/8 tsp Hot Red Pepper Flakes
1 28-oz can of Crushed Tomatoes
1 cup Red Wine
2 TB Olive Oil
2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Pepper
Directions

• Chop the fennel, onion and garlic.
• Heat oil in a large pot. Add fennel, onion, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Cook uncovered for about five minutes in to the fennel and onions are soft
• Add tomatoes (and juice), fish broth, and wine. Simmer for 10 minutes
• Add Fish, Clams and Mussels. Simmer for 5 minutes, until mussels open. Add Shrimp and Crab Sections, and simmer for another 5 minutes.
• Discard any clams or mussels that don’t open.

Serve with a San Francisco Sourdough Bread.
Provides 8-10 servings.
